1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Baurs in Magazines: Harald E.'s Beautiful TC2 in Bimmer and Roundel Magazines!

Thanks to Christine and Harald Ertelt of California for sharing these pics of their beautiful E30 TC2 Baur.  We aren't the only ones who appreciate this special car, btw.  This Baur has been the feature of articles in both Roundel (November 2009) and Bimmer Magazine (October 2011) in the past few years!  Those articles are now hard to come by, so I have posted them below!  Enjoy!

But.... full disclosure.... that is not where Baurspotting first found this car.  It first came to our attention when another car blog mentioned Baurspotting*.  We followed up on the mention, and sure enough, we found this Baur..... but no identifying info on it.  So we have been looking for it ever since May 23, 2011!

Here is the the post we did on this Baur back then:
http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/2011/05/just-car-guy-blog-baur-tc2-m.html

If you check the comment section of that post, you will see that we were informed of both the Roundel article and the Bimmer Magazine article at that time, and we even learned the owner's name.   But we were not able to contact the owners------  until they reached out to us!  Thank you, Christine and Harald, congratulations on your beautiful Baur, and welcome to Baurspotting!

Here is a comment from Harald:
"I purchased the car new and was able to drive it in then, West Germany, before it was shipped to Long Beach, Ca. In 1984."

Now I know the first thing you alert readers out there are going to notice is..... that M badge on the trunk lid, right?

We know that there was only 1 factory E30 M3 that was converted into a Baur**, and no, this isn't that car.  That famous Baur resides in Germany.  So... what is that M badge doing on this car?   Keep reading, but suffice it to say that this Baur has undergone some.... modifications  Wink wink.  Nudge nudge.  ;)

Here is the article from October 2011 Bimmer.  Please bear with me on this:  the pics that I was sent, did not allow me to magnify them to a readable size.  So I had to fiddle with the images and text a bit to get them to the size you see now.

Here is the original Roundel Magazine November 2009 Cover Story!

Rara Avis!

N.B. You may notice a certain similarity between some of the pics below, and the pics that you have just seen above, despite the fact that they appeared in different magazines nearly two years apart.  Interestingly enough, the photography credit in both articles goes to the same person:  Zachary Mayne.  The Bimmer Magazine article above was both written and photographed by Zachary Mayne.   The Roundel Magazine article below was written by the owner, Harald Ertelt, and photographed by Zach Mayne.

Baur Plate number for this car is:  B 2863!

We love this caption!  Four options, to be exact:  Coupe, Targa, Landaulette, and Cabriolet!

Here are those 4 'airy options"!  ;)

Congratulations again to Harald and Christine!  Thank you so much for contacting me and sharing your beautiful Baur with us!

**The only Factory built E30 M3 Baur. According to our source, Jeroen J. of The Netherlands,:   The one and only M3 Baur, here at the largest classic indoor show of Europe. This car was build for Michael Baur, grandson of Karl Baur senior who founded the Baur Karroseriefabrik in 1910. At that time the factory was still run by Karl Baur junior and Heinz Baur.

Here is another post that mentions Harald's Baur from July 2012:
