1982 BMW 323i Baur

1982 BMW 323i Baur
Memorial Day 2010 First Drive 1982 323i BMW Baur Lapisblau M20 5 speed #4154 of 4595 made. The car was imported to California by Dietel Enterprises. I have since changed the wheels, installed the clear turn signal lenses, and I am in the process of installing a new cabriolet roof. I have to do something about those bumpers, too. :) I love this car! To see one of the reasons why, check my post "Score One For the Good Guys" on 6/26/2011.

Unknown TC2 Spotted At Precision Motors, Costa Mesa CA

Thanks to our 'hawk-eyed' friend, Layne W. of Texas, who spotted this TC2 Baur in the background of a photo of a Sixer that is for sale on Craig's list in California!

You can see the white E30 TC2 Baur parked at the left of the pic near the door.

You can see it here again through the windshield.

It is visible again in the windshield.  :)

The shop is Precision Motors. Does anyone know them?

Thank you, Layne!

Peter v. U.'s new Baur Project!

Our friend and fellow Baur owner, the indefatigable Peter v. U., has picked up another Baur project!  The guy is unbelievable!  :)

This is a 1978 320/6 that he purchased from Wiggert R. U., who was originally planning to restore it, but ... life intervenes.... and he had to change his plan.   Here is Wiggert's comment in Facebook today:

"Wiggert Ronald Ubbels I now iT was mine hahahaha but no time and money anymore.  Goodbye

project one,  Peter van Uum success and have fun"

Rest assured, Wiggert, that your Baur is in good hands, and we all look forward to seeing Peter work his 'magic' on it!  :)

Kudos to Peter for saving another Baur!   I don't know how you will fit it in with all your other projects, but I am confident that you will do it!  Good luck, Peter, and please keep us posted!

South African-built Body Color TC2 Baur Frame!

I found this in the E30 Zone archives tonight.  Jitzy01 is the owner.  There was no other information on the post, and it goes back a couple of years (May 2013).

This owner is obviously very proud of his Baur, although it may not be to everyone's taste, including mine.  But I do admire the enthusiasm and spirit of anyone who works as hard as this guy did to make this 'his own".

But that isn't the real reason I have it posted here today.  Although I have no info on where this car is from, this pic is a great example of something that we have talked about many times here.... but can never seem to get a really good pic of what we are talking about!

Here it is:  South African-built E30 Baurs are distinguished from their Stuttgart-built cousins by the distinctive 'body color' Baur frame!  Stuttgart Baur Frames are black.  Notice the color of this Baur Frame:  red!
Forget the trunk lip, special BBS wheels, camber and stretched tires!  Check out the color of that C pillar!  It is RED, as clear as day!  :)  Therefore, this Baur is either a South African-built Baur, or it has had a respray that included the Baur frame.  :)

That is my main point.... this is what we mean by 'body-colored' Baur frame.

Now here are the rest of the pics for you to .... ummmm .... enjoy.  ;)

Nat100's 1983 TC2 in Nashville, TN

I stumbled on this Baur in a Bimmerfest forum tonight from April 2008.  The owner went by the name of Nat100 in the forum.   It reminds me of our friend, Jeff D's TC2 in North Carolina, but I have no other information on it.  (Jeff has a 1984 320i, btw.)  The wheels are similar, and so is the trunk lip.  But there is no trunk lid badge on this one, and we don't know what engine it has.

Does anyone know this Baur?

I know we have a couple of Baurspotters down that way.  Please stay alert, and perhaps we can track this one down with your help!    ;)

"So with regret and a heavy heart I have decided to sell my Cabrio.
It was first registered in Jan '74 and is a RRL model in Fjord blue.
The car had restoration work carried out in the early to mid 80's by TT Workshops and it still stands in lovely condition today having spent the majority of its life well garaged. It was MoT'd August 2014 and passed with no advisories!
I have a letter from BMW AG confirming that it was built in July '73 and I have copies of the original data sheets too. I have just registered the car with dvla as historic so RFL is now free.
It has been retro fitted with electric windows which work ok but wont be to everyones taste. Also blue Recaro front seats were fitted in the 80's but look like they were fitted new just yesterday. I do not have the original front seats. Original rear seats look untouched. The whole interior is in very good condition, even the dashboard is not cracked or split which is quite a common problem on these dashboards
The mileage is either 78 or 79k (can quite remember) but it has a massive history file including pretty much every MoT since 1981 to back up mileage.
It is also fitted with a 5 speed close ratio "dog leg" gearbox - takes a little getting use to but just the 'box and prop on their own are worth a fair bit! Clutch feels good
It starts and runs nicely but has not seen much use at all in the last 4 years so the engine would benefit from a tune but still runs well.
So to sum up this is a lovely cabrio, not concourse but is excellent and has been pampered! Also BMW have confirmed it was one of the very last RHD cabrio RRL models off the production line.
As you can see quite a unique example of an already rare car!

Also a set of 5 genuine 100+ wheels which were only available as an option when new from BMW dealers in the UK. These are available by separate negotiation

Please contact me by email if you are genuinely interested. Near offers considered only upon viewing. Not looking to sell overseas
Thanks for looking."

Baur Grille Badge on Ebay France

I found these on ebay tonight, one in France, and the other in the UK.  The UK version is less expensive.  No affiliation, btw.

This is a Baur badge that attaches to your front grille.  The one that I have came from the UK.

I like it.  There are lots of folks out there who have never seen a Baur,, and when they DO see one, they aren't sure what it is.  This can help them identify a Baur, and that is not a bad thing!  :)

Special Pictorial: BillinMN's Baur Restoration!

Don't ask me how I found this!  I don't know how I found it!  I was stumbling around in old Baur threads, and BOOM!  This pops up!  I am a firm believer in the old aphorism that says:  the harder you work the luckier you get!  Well, I got lucky tonight.  :)

OK, these pics are from BillinMN, a Baur owner and friend in MN.  I have corresponded with Bill on a couple of occasions, but I had no idea this pictorial was out there, waiting to be found!  Up until now, the full extent of my knowledge of Bill's Baur was this pic, which I have had on file for years.  It is his signature pic in bimmerforums, if I am not mistaken.

I offer this pictorial as an inspiration:
1)  to folks embarking on a restoration, so they get an idea of what they are getting themselves in to;
2) to folks struggling with a project so that they can see what their hard work can become!

Thank you, Bill for sharing this project with us!

Here is Bill's post in that long forgotten thread (June 2007), with the link to these pics:http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-37043.html

Hey Guys. I'm new here but do recognize a few names from other venues.

I've an '81 323 Baur almost done with a frame up. While not done yet, here's a glimpse of what an e21 Baur looks like.

Mayan, when are we going to see yours?????

Nice!!!!!!!

It is a beauty, isn't it?  :)  Well, surprisingly enough, it didn't always look this way!  :)

This is how it started out a while back.

I believe this is Bill himself!  Kudos!

And here we are back where we began.  Kudos to BillinMN!

Congrats, and thank you again, BillinMN!
